Big Jump Press

three down, two on their way, five to go

Back to work on the prints. This time: “The Clothespin causes someone to remember something.” (See here for a description of the prints I am producing alongside a book project). As usual, my process begins with a scrawl:

Sharpens up on the computer:

And shifts slightly on the press:

This red, by the way, a half and half mix of warm red and rubine red, is  letterpress crack. And this red plus gray is my lazy signature move, particularly with poetry broadsides. Look at this:

and this:

and this:

I keep telling myself to stop, but it just feels so good. I am the most boring addict in the world. Is there an intervention joke in here somewhere? Or is that just tacky?

Repetitive color choices and drug addiction jokes aside, I also moved forward on another print yesterday: “The nut constitutes a piece of evidence about the past.” Those of you who have been keeping up with this blog may recognize the image below, a discarded folio from the book project. It didn’t quite fit into the book, but it refuses to be ignored and so it will survive as a print. Here it is, in progress. Look, I put a nut on it.

Three of the ten prints from this project are already finished, and here they are for your perusing pleasure:

The pine cone is an object of veneration:

The film is an indication of something else

and The stone is a material thing that can be seen and touched.

Did you see what I did there? That’s right, internet. My long dormant Etsy shop is back open. And you said it would never happen.

Ten prints all need to be finished before I head back to the States on the 3rd of November. Oh, god. That is two weeks away.

Agreed! Thanks, Glenn. I will not even stop to sleep from now on. (there might be some deterioration in quality.)
