Here are some things I’ve been thinking about this year: the nature of truth, when true things become untrue things, fairness, essentials, basic forms, how things change between conception and execution, how things change after execution through use.
Somehow these thoughts and the playful making I am doing feels connected to the idea of dwellings or shelters.
When I am thinking about a new project, it tends to surface deliberately in some places and inadvertently in others. This March I spent my spring break making a house for Milo with visiting friend (and, conveniently, architecture professor) Kirin Makker:
And almost immediately one thing becomes another thing:
There is a book here, but it is coming slowly. My long-held process for designing a book project included arranging my life around an idea, then nurturing it over long months of uninterrupted days and late nights. This has changed as my life has changed, and I have to find a new process under new conditions and far fewer dedicated, long stretches of time.
