This week I am visiting the Reading University MA in Typeface Design Program. Letters, letters, everywhere. wood type, metal type, signs, presses, monotype casting equipment, and braniacs. Ooh la la. On Saturday I spent the day playing with the Stephenson Blake S3 press with my friend Ben. Tomorrow I will be attending a lecture by Michael Twyman, giving an informal talk, and poking around like a big geek.
Ahhh great memories! Spent 4 years there and blame Reading entirely for my printing addiction. In fact, my first ever letterpress print was made on that S3! What a treasure trove of people, ephemera and equipment – wish I could go back.
Hope your week was fruitful!

Hi Rich! Yes, it was such a great visit, I loved spending that week in Reading tagging along with the type designers and looking at the amazing collection of wood type on hand. I’ve been back a couple of times since to do bookbinding workshops with the book design students and have enjoyed every visit. Did you get to do any type casting while you were there? I know they have some Monotype casting equipment, right? Anyway, thanks so much for your comment and glad to know another printing addict!
