Big Jump Press

Day Two: Settling In

Press runs #2 and #3 accomplished after some heavy registering and checking and adjusting. Above: using a proof, a mockup, a pencil and a pica ruler to prepare to get a plate onto the press in the right position. I may have stolen that pica ruler from Wells College while I was working there. And I may have noticed “Wells College” scratched into the pica ruler before putting it my bag as I shipped off to Brighton. I am rotten and I am so sorry. I also took a pair or scissors. I am a monster.

Here I am lining up the text with yesterday’s run to make sure that the text follows along a baseline from one page to another. So far so good. By the way, does anyone else think I should have been a hand model? Look at those fingers. Poise, I say. Elegance and poise.

And at the end of the day, a satisfying stack of folios. 85 or so sheets for an edition of 75, leaving some room for some mistakes along the way. This page will have eight runs in the end. I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but the inking looks much better today. Next up: some gray text.
